Conejo Valley Quilters
Finish the Flimsies Philanthropy Challenge
Compete to finish flimsies (aka pieced quilt tops) from Guild inventory into completed quilts. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place to Challenge participants who finish the largest number of quilts by May 31.
Guild members must sign up to participate and will be provided with a kit containing a flimsy, batting, and yardage for backing and binding—when each finished quilt is returned, you can choose a new kit to complete. Any style of quilt stitching is okay—stitch in the ditch, diagonal, wavy lines (or any similar stitching), or tying will get the job done—or you can showcase your free motion skills. Our flimsy inventory is large, and the Challenge is planned to reduce it as much as possible and get quilts distributed to our two charities.
To enter the Challenge register by sending your name, email address and phone number to Pat Anderson at email@example.com.

Many Mansions (manymansions.org)
James Storehouse (jamesstorehouse.org)
The Guild thanks Jerry and Marilyn Petersen of Cotton & Chocolate Quilt Company for their generous donation of the Sewing Center for the Guild Challenge days listed below and a 15% discount on all store items except kits and sale items (good February 7-May 31).
CHALLENGE PROGRESS REPORT: May 12 -- We are in the homestretch of the race to “Finish the Flimsies.” All finished Challenge quilts must be returned by May 31 to be counted toward the prize awards.
Many Mansions is moving a large number of families into newly acquired apartments beginning late April, and CVG can help fill the welcome baskets being prepared for them with pillowcases. Additionally, James Storehouse has an ongoing need for the many foster children and young adults they assist.
Pillowcases for all age groups are needed, children to adults, and for both males and females. This is a great way to use up leftover fabric in your stash. You will need a piece 27” x WOF for the body, 9” x WOF for the cuff and 2” or 3” x WOF for the accent strip (depends on personal preference) and remember to choose gender- and age-specific fabrics.

Quilt presentations and awards ceremony
A brief presentation and awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 11 at 1:30 PM in the courtyard next to Cotton & Chocolate. To respect patrons of adjacent businesses, please park on Lombard Street behind the Cotton & Chocolate shopping complex, or in the lots of Lombard Street businesses closed on Saturday. Consider carpooling.
Representatives from James Storehouse and Many Mansions have been invited to this event to receive the more than 75 quilts acquired during this Challenge, which began February 6. Cotton & Chocolate owners, Jerry and Marilyn Petersen will join us along with CVQ Board members, Challenge participants, guild members and community participants. Local press have been invited to this event as well.
Following the quilt donations, first, second and third place prizes will be awarded to CVQ members who participated in the Challenge and completed the largest number of quilts, along with a raffle drawing for prizes for all guild members who completed philanthropy quilts during the Challenge.
Help Needed for Preparation
Prior to June 11 - Quilt preparation volunteers are needed for final quilt review (loose threads and any other issue needing attention), labeling and division of quilts to be received by each charity.
June 11 – Many of the completed quilts will be hung for display or arranged for viewing at the presentation. Volunteers are needed to transport quilts, erect quilt hangers, set up tables, arrange decorations, etc. Following the ceremony, volunteers will be needed to move quilts to recipients’ vehicles and help clear the presentation area.
Please contact Pat Anderson (firstname.lastname@example.org) to get specifics on how you can help between May 31 and June 11.
THE CVQ 2022 WHISPER CHALLENGE
WHAT IS IT? It's like the child's "telephone" game, only with quilts.
HOW WILL CVQ DO THIS? Participants will be assigned to teams. The same photograph will be given to one member of each team. That member will make a small quilt based on photo, take a picture of their quilt and pass that picture to the next team member. Each successive member only sees a photo of the prior quilt.
HOW MUCH TIME WILL IT TAKE? Each participant will have 6-8 weeks to make one small quilt. Timing depends on when it's your turn.
WHEN WILL IT END? The "BIG REVEAL" will take place during our 2022 Holiday Social.HOW
DO I SIGN UP? Send an email to email@example.com by January 18. Teams will be assigned and challenge begins on February 1, 2022.
